With over 25 years experience as an International Mountain Leader, Alan has provided worldwide training and adventures delivered through Bigfoot Services Limited which was established in 2003 and operated until March 31st 2021 when Alan went in to semi-retirement......
Alan delivered 50 Mountain Training courses before relinquishing his providership to deliver such courses.
Alan holds the Summer, Winter and International Mountain Leader Awards.
Alan continues to deliver the following courses in conjunction with Menhinick Outdoors Limited: UIAA Mountain Hill Skills - RGS Certificated Off Site Safety Management (OSSM) - REC First Aid - NNAS National navigation Award Scheme
Alan has travelled extensively throughout his life and has lived in Hong Kong, Germany, Dubai, Singapore and Indonesia.
Alan has led over 20 Himalayan treks across Nepal, Tibet and India and can offer pre-trek training courses and help arrange treks.
For almost 25 years Alan was employed by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, initially as a Warden and then Area Manager.
Alan's earlier employment was in the oil industry with BP Tankers and Conoco.
For the last ten years however, he has been working in Indonesia for up to 12 weeks annually as a Lead Auditor for ISO Implementation Standards for major offshore engineering projects.
The November 2023 trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4150m) was completed to everyone's satisfaction.
January 2023 and 2024 saw Alan and Helen Menhinick travel to the Kasbah du Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco to train local Berber mountain guides. These UIAA and REC training courses were completed in February 2025.
